Welcome to No Books of Men! We are a modern alternate history board set in a magical school nestled in the Columbiana Valley of the Rocky Mountains. Students of the Collegium Illustrata Columbiana (commonly called simply The Academy) are free to explore their wildest imaginations in learning the mystic arts, so long as it does not jeopardize the ongoing Shadow War with the Exarchs. How will you live up to the legacies of Merlin?

Player Name: Squeeji

Character Name: Marisol June Sparks-Espinoza

Alias: June, Junie, Junebug, Rainbow-in-the-Dark [DN]

Age: 20

Character Type: Uratha (Werewolf)

Tribe: Meninna (Hunters in the Darkness)

Auspice: Cahalith (Gibbous Moon)

Profession: Tourist Trap Sales Associate

PB: Sara Bareilles

Appearance:
A plucky little thing, with a constant grin on her face and a ridiculous stature of 6'4". June has very little shapeliness to her body, given her lack of body fat, Though she's pale from lack of sun, its obvious that she isn't entirely white, which she'll attest that her mother was mostly Middle Eastern, which gives her a dusky complexion, she's pretty enough, her face is long, with high cheek bones an arched nose to match, from the looks of it, it has been broken a few times, and reset poorly a couple times. Her big doe eyes are a warm, but wildly intense dark brown, with thick lashes, though a tomboy, she looks rather feminine. Her dark brown hair is a wild rats nest, going past her shoulders but held up tight against her head in a pony tail, not one to have it get in the way of what she's doing.

In her Dalu form she bulks out considerably, becoming more bandy than wiry. The body hair situation gets rather frightening, as her already dark hair grows wild as the hair on her arms get slightly longer, and she develops what looks like one eyebrow. Her face broadens to a more primal looking state, and she's not nearly as pretty as she had been in her homid form. But the near man form is not one for grace or beauty.

The Gauru form is not as impressive as most, tall at just over 9'3" through strongly muscled she doesn't have the sheer vastness as some. But its still a well toned murder-machine. She's still rangy, with long limbs and a slim form, however, she isn't nearly bony, her feet and hands in this form are over-sized, tipped in nasty claws made worse by the length of her fingers and toes. However, her face, now that of a wolf, is long, with large ears and sharp honey colored eyes. Her coat is the mottled shades of an Iberian wolf, shades of red, dappled and ticked with black, some creme colors along her muzzle, stomach, arms and legs, in this form a scar from her hip to her chest is now apparent.

Her Urshul form is the most massive of her forms, hunched over she looks like an enormous dire wolf, her normally slim snout grows jowly, and her teeth are a bit more snaggle-toothed. Her large ears are slightly more stunted, and her tail is short. Even her claws seem more blunt in this form. However, her eyes, and hide stay the the same in this form, including her scar.

In Urhan, she's a standard Iberian wolf, tall and lanky, with a thin coat in colors of red, black and creme. Her ears are over sized, and her face is long, her tail is somewhat scraggly looking and her paws are just too big, giving her a floppy, almost puppy-like look (obviously still somewhat adolescent), however what she lacks in grace in looks she to makes up for in speed and agility.

Powers:
Dreamers' Moon
  • Sense Sleeper- This peculiar Gift allows the Cahalith to open her senses to the world around her, getting a sense for the sleeping and perhaps dreaming minds that might be nearby. It is particularly handy for werewolves conducting a nocturnal hunt: If a Beshilu is hiding in the basement of a home, the Cahalith can tell if there are any family members still awake who might have to be accounted for.
  • Lover's Voice- This Gift plays on both the Cahalith's affinity for vocalization and the influence dreams can have on a person. With Lover's Voice, a Cahalith can mimic the voice of someone important to the target, even if it's a voice she's never heard. The target hears the voice he most wants to hear, be it a family member, a friend or even someone he fantasizes about. Historically, this Gift was used to draw prey away from the herd and into an ambush -- today, the same trick still works, but a creative Gibbous Moon can find other uses for the Gift as well. This Gift can be used over a telephone or similar method of voice communication without establishing line of sight, but the Cahalith must know the full name of the target.
Knowledge
  • Know Name- To understand something, one must first know its name. This Gift is a simple trick, but one with potentially wide-ranging applications. With a glance, the werewolf can learn the name of someone she sees in person. The name learned is always one that the person would answer to and consider his own. The character cannot use this Gift on a person that she sees indirectly (through a video camera or in a photograph).
  • Traveler's Blessing- A werewolf's road can take her a long way from home, but spirits can guide her as she goes. This Gift teaches the werewolf the basics of what she needs to know about whatever human culture in which she finds herself. As she calls on her spirit-wisdom, the local language settles into her mouth and knowledge of local customs wraps around her mind. Though still a stranger wherever she goes, she need never be an ignorant one.
Stealth
  • Feet of Mist- Sight and sound are not the hardest senses for a werewolf to defeat, but even a bloodhound would wear its nose out trailing a werewolf with Feet of Mist. The werewolf's scent fades to near-imperceptibility. All attempts to track or detect the werewolf by scent is made more difficult, even when this Gift is not active. The character may consciously suppress this power if she wishes to lay a normal scent.

Mother Luna
  • Partial Change- This subtle Gift allows a werewolf to transform only the parts of himself that he needs in order to complete a task at hand. For example, a werewolf in Hishu form might transform only his nose in order to track someone through the city streets by scent, without drawing the attention to himself that transforming into Urhan would attract. Conversely, a werewolf in Urhan form might transform his eyes to human to gain sharper color vision.
Personality:
June is an adventurous young Uratha, trudging off into the great beyond in hopes of treasure, lore or glory. There is nowhere she won't go, and no foe she won't attempt to slay or outsmart. Cocky to a fault, June takes too many risks but she calculates them, and tends to thrive on those bad decisions, any success encourages her, and any failure seems to make her worse, more determined. She's survived worse, and no matter what unfortunate circumstances befall her, it only seems to encourage her to stand tall. She's proud of her Garou heritage, and she's fearless in the face of death because it is her duty to be so, never mind that it makes for a damn good story. Her feet are firmly grounded, but her head is in the clouds.

She's always looking for someone to drag upon some sort of dangerous daring-do. Whether or not they want to, while not the sort that is suicidal, she isn't always the best best judge of what's a good idea, and a bad idea. However she is fun, if you like nearly dying...but when things go wrong she's always quick to apologize. She's a legitimately kind person, with a playful and somewhat hectic demeanor, however, she's not too sure how to behave herself, and that often leaves her frustrated. And her temper, though slow to rouse is fiery typically burning fast and even sooner burning out.

There's just a touch of the wyld within her that can't be shaken, she's more animal than most of her ilk. June has spent her existence within the confines of the valley or the mystic abroad, and has managed grow strange and alien to the 'real world' around her. In fact, if it weren't for her instincts and her quick wits, she'd no doubt be in trouble now that she's out on her own. But thanks to her isolated upbringing, auspice and nearly frantic nature she is a reckless, gregarious little tomboy of a girl. Who says what she wants, when she wants, and does what she wants, when she wants. Damn the consequences.

Easily bored, and gifted with the devious mind of a prankster, June is apt at entertaining herself...usually at the expense of others, given that, she's also a competent warrior. Creative like any Cahalith should be, she's able to spin a yarn, but her idea of being an inspirational leader is on par to being an insult comic. Though she's full in to the Meninna bit about protecting the wild places of nature and those preyed upon by evil.. there's still a bit of Black Wolf in her, and she can't abide by those who can't help themselves if they're able, the old eat or be eaten logic of a hunter. She doesn't agree with most folks who use their powers for “evil” actions (well half of the time, after all...you can't have good without evil, but you can't have evil without good you know? ) She definitely doesn't agree with the mentality that most Forsaken (and some magi to boot) have about killing first and asking questions later. After all, asking questions is the most important part of life. How can you expect to learn anything about anything if you don't ask questions? A lot of them. In rapid succession. All at once. But she understands the import niche everyone plays in the supernatural ecosystem. Even given that she is surprisingly heroic, guarding those who are weak...or haven't learned yet how to make themselves strong. Because of that she often takes on charges, both willing and unwilling to teach the fine arts of independence, self confidence, and on occasion: humility.

And while she adores stories, June can't stomach being just a mouthpiece or a gossiper like some of her auspice, she has started to live her life by the motto of: "Why recite legends, when you can rise up and be one." This has simply made her ambitious, and not a werewolf to be trifled with, as she's bound to find a means to get her way, one way or another.

History: An unusual sight within the valley proper, a few non-locals with the ability to see others as they are might wonder how a Uratha came to grow up in a place like Columbiana. For the rest, it's kind of a strange old story that starts when an anthropologist and an archaeologist met over seas...forced to work with one another, they argued and fought until their tensions became a bit more romantic. Though that's really neither here nor there. Well, except that they did end up with a daughter, and the strange little family traveled the world for some time investigating mysteries, and lost civilizations ...and while it was a great adventure, it didn't instill much structure in young June, who as a budding werewolf was already a willful and difficult child. Always finding trouble and biting off more of it then she could chew.

By the time she reached twelve her pre-adolescent self had gotten on her wishy-washy parent's last nerve, who continued to travel for their job with the Academy but left June in he care of various family or family friends within the sheltered and strange valley, which hardly did anything to curb her enthusiasm things she had no business in dealing with. If anything, she relished the freedom. But also hated it...she hopped from home to home, and made her own backup of flunkies that she cherished but also pulled down with her.

It had been a long, awful summer- the worst she could think of in ages. And she had a few. June finished her shift at The Shack and walked home, taking her time and skirting the park that had been (at least if you could believe a sopping drunk) was the source of the majority of the suck that had become her life. Mom was gone in person, dad gone in every other capacity other then in person. And here she was, starting up another semester feeling like she was twisting in the breeze.

But June never said anything about it, she smiled and nodded at every condolences she got from strangers and distant acquaintances...even her friends who knew better, but she couldn't unload on them. What could they do? Hell...what could she do? It was moments like this she understood why people like Hoss just picked up and disappeared- the world was too complex and difficult to deal with, on like...every level. Just naw, naaaaaw. But she was a tough kid, absentee parents were nothing new, hard knocks were the norm and she was June...she would do just fine.

At least she kept telling herself that, but it was getting tiresome- she flopped down on the grass near the pavilion, there wasn't a band or anything going on...but some hipster guys with a guitar were going raw on 'Thunder Road' and it might have been the first time that the lyrical mish-mash of The Boss had ever hit her with any reason. "Hnnng." Yeah that was something, she huffed falling back against the grass, as she watched the clouds go by like everything was fine, because everything else kept going on, and on and on...and here she was wondering how everything else was going to hell down here.

Player Name: Squeeji

Character Name: Marisol June Sparks

Alias: June, Talullah Radcliffe

Age: 20

Character Type: Undergrad

House: House Batini

Secret Societies: --

PB: Sara Bareilles

Appearance: Other then the fact she's 6'4", no notable differences.

Spheres:
  • Fate: 3
  • Space:2
  • Forces: 1
Rotes:
  • Touch of Luck: The mage can now either bless a target with exceptional luck (finding a $20 bill on the sidewalk, always hitting green lights, etc) or terrible luck (hitting every red light along their path, the subject bumps into the worst sorts of people, etc). This effect lasts for up to a day, at the caster's discretion.
  • Winds of Chance: By submitting herself entirely to fate, the caster finds that her desires are met in some seemingly random way. For example, a mage wishing to have an interesting encounter at a bar random chances will result in someone joining them there. This can function both ways, too; by wishing misfortune on others, they find their life besieged by bad luck
  • Lucky Coin/Monkey's Paw: The caster can create a permanent enchantment upon a lifeless object, allowing the object to bestow a "Touch of Luck" to any individual holding it, including Sleepers
  • Untouchable: The best policy for avoiding harm in a fight is to not be where attacks will land. This spell enables a mage to perform slight intuitive "tweaks" to the local fabric of space and slip away from hostile attention. The effect resembles something akin to the "Drunken Boxing" style of martial arts, where the mage keeps "getting lucky" as he seemingly stumbles out of the way of oncoming attacks.
  • Nightsight: Through attuning perceptions to pick up even the faintest amount of light, the mage is now capable of activating the ability to see perfect in any situation with even the tiniest amount of light. This doesn't allow sight in total darkness, but anything less than total darkness is no different than noontime on a sunny day.
  • Influence Sound: The mage can manipulate preexisting sound waves in basic waves. By directing the amplitude and direction of sounds, the mage can hear whispers from across the room, ensure that his voice reaches his target over the sound of a crowd, o make sure that his voice only goes in a single direction. Volume manipulation isn't possible yet, nor is creating sound from nothing.
Personality: June is an adventurous young woman, trudging off into the great beyond in hopes of treasure, lore or glory.
